Heart Necklace: Meaning, What Each Heart Says, How Romantic It Reads, and What It Means

Updated: 07 Oct, 2026 Published: 06 Oct, 2026
Heart necklace meaning

A heart necklace stands for love, but which kind of love depends on the heart. A solid or sparkling heart usually reads as romantic. An open heart reads as warmth, openness, or self-love. Two hearts mean two people: a couple, sisters, a mother and daughter, or best friends. Add a lock, an infinity sign, or a crown, and the heart picks up a promise, forever, or loyalty. Colour changes the mood too, from passionate red to friendly yellow.

In India, one more thing decides the meaning: who gives it, and when. The same small heart says something very different from a husband on Karwa Chauth, a brother on Bhai Dooj, and a guy friend on your birthday. And long before heart pendants reached Indian jewellery counters, Indian stories already kept love in the heart. In the Ramayana, the most famous necklace gift ends with a heart, not a pendant.

This guide covers what each heart shape and colour means, a simple scale for how romantic a heart necklace will read, the Indian meanings most guides skip, who to give one to (and who not to), what one costs, and how to choose a heart necklace you'll actually wear.

The short answer

  • Solid or pavΓ© heart: love and affection. The classic romantic heart.
  • Open heart (just the outline): warmth, openness to love, self-love. Lighter and less "serious" than a solid heart.
  • Two hearts: two people joined. Couples, sisters, best friends, a mother and daughter.
  • Heart inside a heart: someone you carry in your heart.
  • Heart lock: commitment, "you hold the key". After a red heart, the most clearly romantic design.
  • Heart and infinity: love that lasts.
  • Crowned heart: love and loyalty. In Christian art, the Sacred Heart.
  • Tilted or sideways heart: love worn lightly. A modern, less sugary heart.
  • Red heart: passion and romance. In India, also the colour of marriage.
  • Pink heart: tender, sweet or young love.
  • Yellow heart: friendship and happiness.
  • Purple heart: loyalty and admiration, and for BTS fans, "I purple you".

Heart necklace meaning by shape

A heart is a simple shape, so small design choices carry most of the meaning. Here's how each style is usually read.

Heart style What it looks like What it usually means A good gift for
Solid or pavΓ© heart A full heart in plain gold, or covered in tiny stones Love, affection, "you have my heart" A partner, a wife, an anniversary
Puffed heart A rounded, three-dimensional heart Warm, generous, comforting love A mother, a daughter, yourself
Open heart Just the outline, with skin showing through An open heart: warmth, openness to love, self-love, a fresh start A new relationship, a friend, yourself
Tilted or sideways heart A heart turned on its side or set off-centre Love worn lightly. Modern and less sugary Yourself, a close friend, office wear
Two hearts Two hearts linked, side by side or overlapping Two people joined A couple, sisters, best friends, a mother and daughter
Heart inside a heart A small heart held inside a larger outline Someone you carry in your heart A partner, a child, a parent
Heart lock A heart shaped like a padlock, or with a lock charm Commitment, "you hold the key", a promise A partner, Promise Day, an engagement
Heart and infinity A heart linked with the infinity sign Love without end Anniversaries, long-distance love, a mother
Crowned heart A heart with a crown or a cluster of stones on top Love and loyalty. In Christian art, the Sacred Heart A wife, a Catholic friend at Christmas
Heart station Several small hearts spaced along the chain Love spread through your day. Playful A sister, a best friend, a college student
Heart locket A heart that opens to hold a photo or a note Memory, someone kept close, sometimes remembrance A grandparent, a mother, someone living far away
Heart solitaire or halo One heart-shaped stone, sometimes framed by smaller ones A statement of love. The most "occasion" heart Valentine's Day, Karwa Chauth, a milestone birthday

Two details most guides miss:

  • An open heart isn't a lesser heart. The designer Elsa Peretti, who named the sculptors Henry Moore and Alexander Calder among her inspirations, turned the open heart outline into one of modern jewellery's best-known designs. Today people often choose an outline heart precisely because it doesn't feel like a proposal. That makes it the easiest heart to wear every day, and the safest to give someone you're not dating.
  • A heart inside a heart is the oldest idea on this list. Keeping someone inside your heart is exactly what India's best-known necklace story is about. More on that below.

How romantic will a heart necklace read? The heart signal scale

Here's something that comes up again and again in forums and Q&A threads: when a heart necklace comes from someone who isn't a partner, most people read it as romantic. Some givers, meanwhile, simply picked it because it looked pretty. That gap causes a lot of awkward birthdays.

So before you buy one, or when you're trying to work out what a gift meant, use this scale. It's our own rule of thumb, built from how people actually react.

Signal What it looks like How most people read it
5: Unmistakable A single red heart, a heart lock, a heart solitaire, or a heart on a mangalsutra "I love you." There's no other reading
4: Romantic Two interlocked hearts, a heart with infinity, a pink heart halo, a heart inside a heart Love, a couple, a promise. Between sisters or best friends, a close bond
3: Warm A plain gold or pavΓ© heart, a puffed heart Affection. Romantic from a partner, loving from family
2: Light An open heart, a tilted heart, a small heart station Fondness, friendship, self-love. Pretty more than serious
1: Barely there A small heart among other charms, a yellow or green heart, a heart combined with another symbol Cute and friendly. Rarely read as a declaration

What turns the signal up: the colour red, a bigger heart, a heart-shaped stone, a single heart on its own, and a romantic occasion such as Valentine's Day, an anniversary, or Karwa Chauth.

What turns it down: an open outline, a small size, a friendly colour such as yellow, more than one heart, other symbols on the chain, and a card that says why you're giving it ("for the best sister", "happy first job").

If you've received one and you're not sure what it means, check the scale, then the occasion, then the note. A level 5 heart on Valentine's Day means what it looks like. A level 2 open heart from a college friend on your birthday probably means "I thought you'd like this". If it matters to you, it's fine to ask.

Heart necklace colours: what they say, and what they say

Most heart colour meanings today come from two places: old flower and gem symbolism, and the heart emojis we send every day. Colour already carries meaning of its own, and that's usually what people read first.

Colour Common reading What it can mean A good day to wear it
Red Passion, romance, "I love you" Marriage. Red is the bridal colour in many cultures, and the colour of sindoor Navratri red day (Tue 13 Oct), Karwa Chauth (Thu 29 Oct)
Pink Tender, sweet or young love, affection A soft romantic gift, and a favourite for daughters Birthdays, Valentine's Day
Purple Loyalty, admiration For BTS fans, "I purple you". V coined it at a fan meeting in November 2016, explaining that purple, the last colour of the rainbow, means trusting and loving someone for a long time Navratri purple day (Sun 18 Oct)
Yellow Friendship, happiness Auspicious. Haldi, marigolds and Basant Panchami are all yellow Navratri yellow day (Thu 15 Oct), a best friend's birthday
Blue Trust, calm, loyalty Krishna's colour Navratri royal blue day (Wed 14 Oct)
Green Growth, renewal, healing Freshness and new life. Many married women wear green in Sawan Navratri green day (Fri 16 Oct)
White or clear sparkle Pure, lasting love. Goes with everything Peace. In many Hindu families, white is also the colour of mourning, so a white heart can carry a memorial meaning Navratri white day (Mon 12 Oct), every day
Black Mystery, edge, sometimes grief Protection from nazar. The black beads of a mangalsutra carry the same idea Every day
Plain gold Warm, timeless love Auspicious, and easy to wear with Indian outfits and other gold Any day, any outfit

Navratri dates follow the widely used weekday colour list for Sharad Navratri 2026 (11 to 19 October). Some families and regions follow a different scheme, so go with yours.

What the heart means

Most heart necklace guides trace the heart from medieval Europe to Valentine's cards. That's part of the story. But Indian traditions have their own ways of keeping love in the heart, and they change how a heart necklace can be read here.

The most famous necklace in the Ramayana ends with a heart

In Valmiki's Ramayana, after Rama is crowned, Sita gives Hanuman a pearl necklace (Yuddha Kanda, sarga 128). Later retellings, loved across India, add what happens next. Hanuman bites open the pearls one by one, looking for Rama inside them. When people laugh at him, he tears open his chest, and there, in his heart, are Rama and Sita.

It's a story about a necklace where the real ornament is the heart. And it may be the best Indian answer to "what does a heart necklace mean?": the people you keep inside you. It's also why a heart inside a heart, or a locket with a photo, feels so natural as a gift.

Kamadeva's flower arrows: India's own Cupid

The heart pierced by an arrow comes from Cupid, the Roman god of love. India has its own archer of love, and an older one. Kamadeva carries a bow of sugarcane strung with honeybees, and five arrows tipped with flowers: ashoka, mango blossom, jasmine, blue lotus and white lotus. When he aimed at Shiva, Shiva's third eye burned him to ashes, and he became Ananga, "the one without a body". Love that is everywhere, but unseen.

So the idea of an arrow that makes a heart fall in love isn't a Valentine's import. Indian poetry has known it for centuries, only with flowers instead of arrowheads.

The pipal leaf: India's sacred heart shape

The heart shape we draw probably didn't start as a heart at all (see below). In the ancient Mediterranean, it showed up as ivy and fig leaves. India has its own heart-shaped leaf, and it's one of the most sacred: the pipal, Ficus religiosa. Its leaves are heart-shaped with a long, pointed tip. The Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment under a pipal, and Hindu and Jain ascetics meditate beneath it.

So when a heart pendant feels familiar, part of the reason may be that Indians have revered the same shape on temple trees for a very long time.

Anahata: the heart chakra

In yoga and Tantra, the heart chakra is called Anahata, meaning "unstruck", a sound made without anything striking it. It's drawn as a lotus with twelve petals around two interlocking triangles, linked with the element of air, and with love, compassion and balance.

A detail most chakra jewellery skips: today's chakra charts colour Anahata green, but the older Tantric descriptions picture it differently, with a smoky region at its centre and, in some traditions, vermilion petals. So if you want a heart necklace for its spiritual meaning, the green is a modern choice. The meaning, an open and steady heart, is the old part.

The Sacred Heart in Indian churches and homes

For many Catholic families in India, the heart has a specific religious meaning: the Sacred Heart of Jesus, shown as a heart with flames, a crown of thorns, and a cross, shining with light. There are Sacred Heart churches across the country, from the Sacred Heart Cathedral in New Delhi to the Basilica of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in Puducherry and the Sacred Heart Cathedral in Ooty, and June is traditionally the month of Sacred Heart devotion.

A crowned heart pendant echoes that image. If you're giving one to a Catholic friend, they may read it as faith as well as love, which is usually a lovely thing. If they'd want a devotional medal, blessed and with the full traditional symbols, a church shop is the right place to look.

Dil, hriday and jigar: how India says "heart"

Hindi and Urdu say dil, and in India a heart pendant is often simply called a dil wala locket. The Sanskrit word hridaya lives on across Indian languages: hriday in Hindi and Marathi, hridoy in Bengali, hrudayam in Telugu and hridayam in Malayalam, while Tamil says idhayam. And a much-loved child is jigar ka tukda. Jigar is literally the liver, but in Hindi and Urdu it's used much like "heart".

Why a heart looks nothing like a heart

A real human heart doesn't have two neat lobes and a point. So where did the shape come from?

  • Plants first. On ancient Greek and Roman objects, the shape usually showed ivy or fig leaves. Silver coins from Cyrene in North Africa, from the 6th and 5th centuries BCE, carry a similar shape, often linked to the seed of silphium, a prized plant of the ancient world.
  • Love, around 1250. A French manuscript, the Roman de la poire, shows a lover offering his heart to a lady. It's the earliest known picture of a heart as romantic love, although scholars still argue over whether the object is a heart or a pear.
  • Charity and faith, 1305. Giotto painted Charity handing her heart to Christ in the Scrovegni Chapel in Padua.
  • The scalloped shape, early 1300s. The familiar indented heart appears in Italian manuscripts.
  • Playing cards, late 1400s. The red heart suit made the shape familiar everywhere.
  • A word, 1977. The I β™₯ NY campaign turned the heart into shorthand for "love". Emojis did the rest.

What a heart necklace means as a gift

The same small heart can say very different things depending on who hands it over.

Here's how heart necklaces tend to be read across common relationships.

From To What it usually says Heart that fits Think twice about
Husband Wife, on Karwa Chauth "You keep my heart" A red heart, a heart lock, a crowned heart, or a heart on a modern mangalsutra Anything she'd only wear once
Partner Partner "I love you", or "it's us" Two hearts, a heart and infinity, a heart lock A photo locket, if it's early days
Someone you've just started dating Them "I like you a lot" An open or tilted heart A red solitaire or a lock. Too much, too soon
Parent Daughter "You're my jigar ka tukda" A puffed heart, a pavΓ© heart, a heart in her favourite colour Anything too heavy for school or college
Child Mother "You're the heart of this home" A puffed heart, a heart and infinity, a heart station Very small pendants, if her eyesight or fingers make clasps fiddly
Brother Sister, on Bhai Dooj or Raksha Bandhan "I've got you" Two hearts for the two of you, a heart in her colour, an open heart A single red heart. It can read as romantic
Sister Sister "We're a pair" Two hearts, or matching hearts Nothing in particular
Friend Best friend "You're my person" A yellow heart, two hearts, a heart station A red heart, a lock, or a solitaire
Guy friend Girl friend, or the other way round Often read as romantic, even if it isn't meant that way An open heart with a friendly note, or a different symbol A single red or pavΓ© heart, unless you mean it
Colleague or manager Colleague Hearts are easy to misread at work A non-heart symbol, such as a clover or an evil eye Any heart
You Yourself "I'm on my own side" An open heart, a tilted heart, a heart in your colour Nothing. Wear what you love

How to give a heart without mixed signals: pick a level 1 or 2 heart from the scale above, choose a friendly colour, and write the reason on the card. "For the best sister" or "Happy first job" turns a heart from a declaration into a hug.

How to choose a heart necklace you'll actually wear

A heart necklace usually sits close to the skin, day after day. These checks help it last and help it say what you mean.

  1. Decide the signal first: Use the scale above. It's the one choice you can't fix after you've handed it over.
  2. Ask for the pendant size in millimetres: Many listings show only the weight. A dainty heart is roughly 8 to 10 mm across. One large silver brand lists a heart pendant at 1.9 cm by 1.8 cm, which is clearly visible rather than dainty.
  3. Check the chain length: 16 to 18 inches (about 40 to 45 cm) puts a small heart at the collarbone, where it looks best. Our necklace size chart shows every length.
  4. Mind the weight. Around 1.5 to 2.5 grams is comfortable all day. Around 4 grams and up feels more substantial and suits evenings and occasions.
  5. Look at the back: Heart pendants sometimes flip on the chain, and a stone or pavΓ© heart usually has a plain metal back. Check that the bail (the loop the chain passes through) is snug, and that on-model photos show the heart facing forward. Tilted hearts are designed to hang at an angle, so that isn't a fault.
  6. Protect the point: The tip of a heart-shaped stone is its weakest spot. A good setting puts a prong or a metal rim right at the tip.
  7. Read the stone name: Moissanite, cubic zirconia (CZ), lab-grown diamond, natural diamond, and enamel all show up in heart necklaces. The listing and the invoice should say exactly which.
  8. Check the base metal: For skin that reacts easily, nickel-free 925 sterling silver or solid gold is the safer base. Plated brass or steel is fine for occasional wear.
  9. For gold vermeil, ask for the micron figure: A thick gold layer is what separates vermeil from ordinary plating. Here's what gold vermeil is and how it compares with gold-plated jewellery.

Worried a heart looks too young? That's about scale and styling, not age. A small heart, an outline rather than a solid shape, plain gold or white stones, and one heart rather than three all read grown-up. A big, bright pink heart reads playful, which is perfect when that's the mood. If you layer, put a small heart on a shorter chain above a plain longer one. Our guide to how to style and layer necklaces has more combinations.

What a heart necklace costs

Heart necklaces come at every price.

Type What you get Price range we saw Choose it if
Solid gold 9KT to 22KT hallmarked gold, plain or with stones β‚Ή5,842 (9KT, plain) to β‚Ή34,414 (22KT) across 44 heart pendants at one large Indian jeweller You want metal value, resale, or an heirloom
18K gold vermeil 925 sterling silver with a thick 18K gold layer β‚Ή5,999 to β‚Ή8,799 across KYMEE's heart necklaces You want the gold look for daily wear and don't need resale value
925 silver Rhodium- or rose-gold-plated silver β‚Ή1,999 to β‚Ή4,999 on sale at one large silver brand You prefer a lower price or a white-metal look
Gold-tone steel or alloy A thin gold-tone layer over base metal From β‚Ή999 on sale at one demi-fine brand You want a trend piece for occasional wear

Watch the karat:Β The lowest-priced solid gold hearts are often 9KT, which is 37.5% gold. 18KT is 75% gold and 22KT is 91.6%. All of them are real gold, but a 9KT heart holds far less of it. Also check whether the chain is included, since many gold pendants are sold without one.

The gram maths for solid gold: in 2026, 18K gold in Delhi was about β‚Ή11,200 per gram. A 2-gram 18K heart holds roughly β‚Ή22,400 of gold before making charges, stones, and 3% GST. If you buy solid gold, check the BIS hallmark and its six-character HUID code. Here's how to check gold purity.

A Dhanteras thought:Β If your goal is value, hallmarked gold is the right Dhanteras buy. A heart pendant in vermeil or silver does a different job: it's a symbol you'll wear every day, not an investment.

KYMEE's heart necklaces, by what you want to say

KYMEE makes its heart necklaces in 18K gold vermeil over nickel-free 925 sterling silver, with a gold layer of at least 2.5 microns. The small pavΓ© and accent stones are moissanite. The larger heart-shaped stones are cubic zirconia (CZ). None of them is a diamond.

Weights are as listed on the product pages and are approximate.

To say "I love you, every day": Classic Pave Heart Necklace

A dainty heart fully set with moissanite on a fine cable chain. Small and sparkly, it's made to wear every day on its own or stacked with other chains.

  • Meaning it leans towards: the classic heart. Affection, worn quietly
  • Signal: 3, warm
  • Stone: pavΓ© moissanite
  • Best for: a first heart necklace, office and daily wear, a gift from a partner or a parent
  • Skip it if: you want colour, or a heart people can see from across the room

Want it smaller or fuller? The Tiny Pave Heart Pendant Necklace is more petite, and the Pave Heart Pendant Necklace is a puffed heart with a stone-set bail.

To say "my heart is open": Open Heart Pave Pendant Necklace

An open heart outlined in pavΓ© moissanite on a fine cable chain. Light and easy to layer, it shows skin through the centre, so it never feels heavy or formal.

  • Meaning it leans towards: an open heart. Warmth, self-love, a new chapter
  • Signal: 2, light
  • Stone: pavΓ© moissanite
  • Best for: a gift to yourself, a new relationship, a close friend, layering
  • Skip it if: you want a solid, sparkling heart

Two more open hearts: the Tilted Open Heart Slider Bead Pendant Necklace turns a slim open heart on its side and adds a barrel slider bead set with princess-cut CZ, which is KYMEE's take on the sideways heart. The Open Heart Station Necklace spaces tiny open hearts along the chain, alternating with bezel-set round moissanite.

To say "it's the two of us": Connected Heart Duo Necklace

One open heart outline paired with a pavΓ© moissanite heart on a fine cable chain, resting at the collarbone. One plain, one sparkling: two different people who fit together.

  • Meaning it leans towards: two people joined
  • Signal: 4 from a partner, warm and sisterly from a sibling
  • Stone: moissanite
  • Listed weight: about 2.45 g
  • Best for: Bhai Dooj, sisters, couples, a mother and daughter
  • Skip it if: you want colour

More two-heart designs: the Double Heart Pendant Necklace (about 3.85 g) pairs a heart-cut pink CZ with a pavΓ© moissanite heart, joined by a gold ribbon loop. The Infinity Heart Twist Necklace (about 2.95 g) shapes the infinity sign from two interlocked hearts, one in polished gold and one lined with moissanite.

To make a promise: Heart Lock Pave Pendant Necklace

A dainty open heart in pavΓ© moissanite with a smooth, polished loop at the top, so the whole pendant forms a padlock. It sits high on the chest and layers easily with longer chains.

  • Meaning it leans towards: commitment. "You hold the key"
  • Signal: 5, unmistakable
  • Stone: pavΓ© moissanite
  • Best for: Karwa Chauth, Promise Day, an engagement, a first anniversary
  • Skip it if: you're not dating the person you're giving it to

For a promise that's more "forever" than "locked", the Interlocked Infinity and Heart Necklace (about 2.32 g) links a pavΓ© moissanite heart outline to an infinity loop with a small moissanite accent.

To say "I carry you with me": Cupid Arrow Heart Necklace

A tiny heart-cut pink CZ inside an open gold heart outline, hanging from a pavΓ© moissanite bail. It's the closest KYMEE design to the old idea of keeping someone inside your heart.

  • Meaning it leans towards: a heart inside a heart. Someone you carry with you
  • Signal: 4, romantic, but just as fitting from a parent
  • Stones: pink CZ, moissanite
  • Listed weight: about 4.16 g
  • Best for: a partner, a daughter, a new mother, someone living far away
  • Skip it if: you want the lightest possible pendant

To say it in your colour: Heart Solitaire Pendant Necklace

A prong-set heart-cut CZ hanging from a polished bail on a fine cable chain, sitting at the collarbone. It comes in 13 colours: red, garnet red, pink, purple, sapphire blue, sky blue, aqua blue, periwinkle blue, emerald green, light green, yellow, white and black.

  • Meaning it leans towards: whatever your colour says (see the colour table above)
  • Signal: 4 to 5 in red or pink, 2 to 3 in yellow, green or blue
  • Stone: heart-cut CZ
  • Best for: Navratri colour days, a best friend (yellow), a BTS fan (purple), Karwa Chauth (red)
  • Skip it if: you prefer an outline heart or a very light pendant

Three more coloured hearts:

  • Pink Heart Halo Pendant Necklace (about 3.66 g): a heart-cut pink CZ in a tight halo of white moissanite, set in white rhodium on a gold vermeil chain. The most "occasion" heart in the range.
  • Purple Heart Twist Pendant Necklace: a lilac heart-cut CZ wrapped in a twisting gold drop, with small accent stones above and below.
  • Green Enamel Triple Heart Station Necklace (about 4.35 g): a green enamel heart in polished gold, between two small open hearts that each hold a single bezel-set stone. Playful and a natural pick for Navratri's green day.

To say "love and loyalty": Sacred Heart Crowned Pendant Necklace

A bold red heart crowned with a cluster of marquise-cut stones, on a fine chain. It's a fashion take on the crowned-heart style, so it reads as love and loyalty, and to a Catholic friend, as a nod to the Sacred Heart.

  • Meaning it leans towards: love and loyalty
  • Signal: 5, unmistakable
  • Best for: a wife on Karwa Chauth, an anniversary, Christmas
  • Skip it if: you want a devotional medal with the traditional flames, thorns, and cross

A heart on a mangalsutra

A heart on a mangalsutra is a signal 5 by definition. The Floral Heart Drop Modern Mangalsutra has a sparkling heart-shaped centrepiece and a tiny floral drop on the black bead chain, light enough for everyday wear. There's also the Twin Pear Heart Mangalsutra.Β Either is a thoughtful first Karwa Chauth gift for a wife who wants a mangalsutra she can wear to the office. See all mangalsutras.

Heart pieces to pair them with

One heart necklace plus one more heart piece looks like a set. Add a third, and it starts to look like a theme, which is lovely for Valentine's Day and a lot for the office.

Everything heart-shaped is together in KYMEE's heart jewellery collection.

Heart designs we don't make, and your options

You'll see these on Instagram and Pinterest, but they aren't in our collection today:

  • Heart lockets that open to hold a photo or a note
  • Name, initial, or engraved heart necklaces, including couple-name hearts
  • Split hearts, where two people each wear one half
  • Heart and key sets for couples
  • Devotional Sacred Heart medals with flames, thorns, and a cross
  • Hearts with a large moissanite centre stone. KYMEE uses moissanite only as small accent stones
  • Solid gold, natural diamond or lab-grown diamond hearts that hold metal value. For these, a hallmarked piece from a jeweller you trust is the better route

If you'd like one of the designs above in 18K gold vermeil, you can have it made. Fill in KYMEE's create-your-own form with the piece type (a necklace or a mangalsutra), your budget, and a sketch or photo, and the team replies within 24 hours with ideas and a quote. KYMEE uses moissanite only as small accent stones, so any larger stone in a custom piece is cubic zirconia (CZ). Planning an engraved heart? It helps to know how engraving works on gold vermeil first. For names and initials already in the range, see personalised necklaces.

Caring for a heart necklace

A heart necklace is easy to live with, with a little care around its point.

  • Protect the tip: The point of a heart-shaped stone is its most fragile spot. CZ (about 8 to 8.5 on the Mohs hardness scale) is softer than moissanite (about 9.5), so a hard knock against a door frame or a steel vessel can chip a CZ heart's tip.
  • Put it on last: Perfume, lotion, and sunscreen leave a film that dulls pavΓ©, halos, and coloured stones. Let them dry first.
  • Take it off for water: Frequent contact with water, especially pool or sea water, slowly reduces shine. Remove it for the gym, swimming, and cleaning too.
  • Be gentle with enamel: Enamel is coloured glass fused onto metal. Avoid knocks and abrasive polishing cloths.
  • Store it on its own: A heart's point can scratch other pieces, and chains tangle. Use a soft pouch or a lined box, with the chain laid flat.
  • Clean it gently: Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. For build-up, use a slightly damp cloth with mild soap, then dry completely. Here's our step-by-step guide to cleaning gold vermeil.
  • Check the prongs every few months, especially the one at the tip. If a stone moves when you press it gently, stop wearing the piece and get it looked at.

KYMEE's jewellery care guide covers the rest.

FAQs

What does a heart necklace mean?
A heart necklace means love and affection, but the exact meaning depends on its shape, colour and who gave it. A solid or red heart reads as romantic, an open heart as warmth or self-love, and two hearts as two people joined.
